Power washing pavers at Stone Creek

Surface Cleaning

Cleaning your pavers is one of the most important factors in maintaining your paver installation. Over time your paver installation is subject to a lot of environmental factors both caused by nature and humans. Some of these factors may include organic build up from pollen, grass, leaves, grill stains, oil drips, tire marks, rust stains, and many more. While most of these factors will not cause permanent damage to the actual pavers themselves, it can lead to further issues if not fixed within a reasonable amount of time. The biggest issue this causes is that it speeds up the breakdown of the polymeric sand in the paver joint which is extremely important for your paver installation. Cleaning these factors off before it does breakdown your polymeric sand is key to expanding the life of your sand and protecting your paver system. A basic cleaning to your paver installation should be done about 1-2 times per year depending on how many environmental factors your installation is exposed to.

Re-Sanding Polymeric

Polymeric Re-Sanding

Polymeric sand is still pretty new to the hardscape industry but comes with a bunch of benefits over traditional jointing sands. A few of the major benefits of polymeric sand includes that it will greatly help with preventing weeds, ants from building sand hills, easier to clean, and much more. Whether your paver installation still has traditional joint sand or polymeric sand installed it will eventually need to be replaced.. Polymeric sand has a lifespan of about 7 years which is greatly dependent on the conditions it is affected by. For example a patio that is in full sun most of the day will have polymeric sand that will last longer than a patio that is in a shady wet location most of the day. Which is why surface cleaning is an important factor of the lifespan of your installation. Once it is time for the traditional sand or polymeric sand to be replaced it is important to have this process done correctly. The first step in this process includes the powerwashing out of all of the old jointing material. This is a messy and time consuming process but is very important. Once the whole installation has been cleaned out and the surrounding area cleaned up it is important for the area to dry completely. Once completely dried it is now time to install polymeric back into the joints. This is a multi step process between sweeping in joints and compacting with a special vibrating compactor. Leading to the final step of wetting in the polymeric sand to activate it. This may seem like a fairly easy task but there are many ways this could be done wrong which can lead to failed polymeric sand. Complete Restoration

While this is a service we don’t go with all the time it is sometimes necessary. Complete restoration is when it requires repairs or completely rebuilding your installation from the beginning using the existing materials you have. This service is one of the most costly services we offer but can still save you money over a brand new installation. Reasons for the high cost comes down to the long process of cleaning the existing pavers, picking up and organizing them, rebasing, and then installing into the same footprint or close to it. Usually this is only an option on less complex installations or smaller installations. If you think your paver is in need of a complete restoration please contact us to discuss options.

Protective Sealer Applications

Sealing is a very overlooked part of hardscape maintenance. The main benefits of sealing are protecting the pavers themselves while adding a little bit more stability to your polymeric sand.  Over time from environmental factors like rain, the sun, and other elements it will cause the surface of your pavers to break down or lose their color. Sealing helps extend the look of your pavers to last much longer than they would without sealer applied to them. Unlike polymeric sand that can be replaced it is not possible to resurface the pavers you already have installed. Other benefits of sealing include preventing leaf stains, food stains, oil stains, and you can also adjust the appearance of your installation. You can adjust the appearance by using a variety of different sealers we offer like wet look, natural look, satin look, and color boost. Sealer paver generally has a lifetime around 3 years but can last longer. Contact us today to have your paver installation cleaned and sealed.
